In preparation for a camping trip to Alaska next summer, leaving the middle of May and returning when I get here, 3/4/ months, I am at current keeping score of what FL is used the most. After the total from a recent 3 week trip, I find a FL of 105 is way by far, ahead of anything else. Guess it depends on what you are looking for, but so far, this seems to be where I am at. I expect to get a 70/20 VR 2.8 for this up and coming trip, unless something else is released and has a good review. Anyone else keep track of their FL??? :)

I spend way too much time at 300mm. :D

Lil~ Well I mostly use the 18/200 on the D 80 and 80/400 on the D 700, but in checking to see what the most used FL was, I came up up with 105 -- :)

J. R., I think I have a bokeh fetish which only 300mm adequately satisfies. :laugh

JR, we use the same lens. The 18/200. I have to look back to see what my most frequently used FL is though.

3 or 4 months camping in Alaska? You lucky dog you! I suspect that you might have a pic or two to share when you return. :D

EZ~ Well that counts going and coming. I have never seen the Canadian Rockies and hope to be able to take full advantage of the trip. I WILL be getting a couple more cards for my D 700. :)
As for the other thoughts? Some have said the like smaller cards because they download faster? I have 3 8GB for the D 700, and have toyed with getting just one more 16 - Anyone have any thoughts on this? I use Lexar 300x cards by the way. I keep the D700 set on NEF / JPEG, all the time. I WILL be taking the laptop, BUT? Not sure if I want to download every night or not. Any ideas on this. ??

I do not believe that the smaller cards are faster. The speed of the transfer rate is a product of engineering and cards are put into specific classes according to their speed.

Rating Speed (MB/s)
6x 0.9
32x 4.8
40x 6.0
66x 10.0
100x 15.0
133x 20.0
150x 22.5
200x 30.0
266x 40.0
300x 45.0
600x 90.0

I believe 133 is the fastest card out there for now.

J. R., the smaller cards download faster only because they fill up faster. ;)

Now this sounds like a trip I would like to make:D
That being said I would be hard pressed to pick one lens or FL..
That kind if landscape screams UW to me and yet would want 400mm of reach too..
JR I hope you will do a blog of your trip as it would be awesome to keep pace with your travels..

tude~ Don't know much about doing a blog, but I will be taking every lens I have, both the newer ones, and a handful of older ones, including my MR 1000 Nikor- :)
