View Full Version : 100 footsteps - Theme for the week July 26 - August 1

There is nothing but creativity that can be expressed in our theme for this week!
100 footsteps. Take 100 steps away from your computer (bring your camera) and make a photograph.
Remember, at any time you can submit an idea and it will be added to the Theme of The Week Brainstorm List (http://www.moviephotoforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=448).

100 footsteps and take a photo: I periodically put bird seed out on my sidewalk for the birds. I enjoy watching them feed and interact with each other. (Taken about a hour ago)

This photo was actually taken on 6-30-09, but same modus operandi, birdseed taken from my chair in my driveway.

Once I get that far away from the computer I get the shakes and have to run back. Kidding! I will try to get out there tonight. We have quite the Animal Kingdom around our house. There are always bunnies and squirrels running around. Last week I got up and there was a deer standing in the back yard. On our front porch, a Robin built a nest on top of the porch light and has had three chicks. They are hard to photograph as the ceiling is about 6 or 8 inches above them and I can't get high enough to get a good shot. I will see what I can do. All I have now are blurry shots of them thru a window.

Here is my contribution...I am going to try a different direction every day! 100 Steps is far enough to capture a new subject every day, but close enough so that there NO excuses NOT to post.....but familiar enough to force creativity!
Well done so far for everyone!
Here is what I found 100 steps away from my laptop.
Its funny how when you are headed out the door with nothing to photograph in mind, how things just shout out to you. On a normal day I dont usually shoot pretty flowers on a bright sunny day...not my stlye... :D But Im glad I did today.... :)

Its my simple attempt of a signature added to the image. I thought it was fitting to deface the stop sign, lol.

I have a couple more. Remember I spoke of the birds that built a nest over the light on the front porch? I got a few shots today. They are in a hard spot with not much light, so I did what I could. Every time I would go out to shoot them, they would cower in the nest so I couldn't get good shots. Here they are...

You are welcome. You saw the nests under my deck, right? I could never get the chicks to stay head out of the nest. All it would take is for me to be in the back. I know how challenging it can be and you did good!

Here is my contribution for the day....got to 100 steps...but I went down the OTHER side of the driveway.
I decided to use the automatic settings, and see what the camera would do at ISO800. I usually shoot at 200 and manual FWIW.
http://www.moviephotoforums.com/photopost/data/500/medium/WhiteFlower.jpg
It was in the bright sun, but I think the camera exposed for the white. I shoot in RAW so when I opened the NEF file, all
I did was increase the "blacks" to effectively remove the background.
As an experiment I applied NO noise reduction, but I am going to post the full size below so everyone can see the performance of the
D40's sensor at ISO 800 and the level of detail it captures. Maybe tomorrow Ill try 1600 or 3200. ;)
http://www.moviephotoforums.com/photopost/data/500/WhiteFlower.jpg
Anyone know what type of flower this is?
I find it interesting that when the D40 DOES capture a bit of noise, it kind of looks more like film grain than it does color noise.
I really love this camera for the price,
but I may move up to a D90 next year.

I want your head.
I want your wicked parts.
I want to wring out your evil thoughts.
I want to eat out your bitter heart.
I want your soul to sing six words harmony
Of all the pigs that might tempt me.
I know you're sick alone and I’m telling everyone everything.
So scratch it on the wall of your coffin on your sick day home:
"And when your lover loves to cheat there's another you can meethttp://planetsmilies.net/animal-smiley-4914.gif
It’s a short pier, it's a long walk home"
You gotta show me where it hurts,
There’s a beast and a burden
Kicking, spitting on your bathroom floor.
This is your life this is your life and
When I’m done it's over a little bit more.http://planetsmilies.net/animal-smiley-4914.gif
Good things die all the time,
God bless your heart, vengeance is mine.
"Kiss me like you mean goodbye," said the spider to the fly.
When all those times you thought that you were wrong, you were right.

So if I fight the good fight will hairlines recede?
Will lines deepen in face to craft a look of defeat?
I feel the end is near my little Monday night whore,
My little Saturday night became a Sunday remorse.
When it's all over America,
The Godless game show heathens.
This is your life, this is your life,
At last my good friend we are even.
I know I’ll never lose an arm, never stay up staring at the phone.
I'll never rot up with disease don't you bury me and leave,
Don’t you leave me in the ground alone.
You gotta show me where it hurts, never creamate me to burn,
Never chop me up and throw me to sea.
You’ll never have to find the words they come spilling unrehearsed,
But you and I will never find that peace.
Good things die all the time,
God bless your heart, vengeance is mine.
"Kiss me like you mean goodbye," said the spider to the fly.
