I also have several photos entered already into the Smithsonian photo contest....I would encourage everyone on this forum to participate....the Smithsonian one is free. The NG magazine will cost you $12 per entry....maximum 6 entries.

You mean to tell me you have to pay NG $12 to submit photos for consideration? Do they pay you a royalty for using your photo if it is selected?

I know of contests wherein registration/submission fees go toward the purchase of prizes, but cannot speak to the NG issue.

BTW you don't have to pay to enter into the Monthly chance to be published in the magazine....but there is a separate contest starting august 1st.

www.ngphotocontest.com can give you all the details, and there are some prizes involved, including a $1000 digital camera kit. Winners of the national contest will automatically be entered into the worldwide contest for a chance at winning a trip to the National Geographic Society headquarters, including airfare, spending money and gift certificates.


For me though, I really am not too worried about he cash and physical prizes...but I WOULD like the chance to say I had a photo published in Nat-Geo magazine...even if it is just a snipet in the corner of a page....Isn't that every amateur photographers dream? :)

I think I might do it. Especially now that I see they have an "Altered Images" category. Now, if I could only figure out which images to submit....:confused:

Thanks, I didn't make it to the september issue, but thats ok, cause the OTHER decomissioned one is in the smithsonian running so Im still hoping!
