I bought my wife a Cool Pix a few years back but we're thinking we need an upgrade as it's only a 3 MP camera. I wondering what to get her. To tell the truth the Nikon was not what I'd call user friendly. So I looking for recommendations below $500. Also I'm looking to get one of those small slim point and shoot cameras so I can throw it in my pocket. So Canon powershot or Nikon Coolpix for that????

I think you should just go to the camera store and pick up and fool with some of the cameras. I am a fan of Nikon, but im sure the Canon powershot is fine too. To be honest the Point N Shoot I use is a Kodak easyshare. It is pretty easy to use.

I'm a fan of the Kodak cameras as well. I just bought one as a present and it is very small and 10mp for under $150. Erin uses a Canon and it takes great pics but I'm not sure of the cost.

Mine is the Canon SD1100is and I love it. Lots of features, easy to use and great pictures. I paid around $275ish.

We have the Canon Power Shot SD630 and it is great. Takes a decent pic and wasn't rel expensive. It's the older version of Erin's camera, and you can see by her pics that is does a really good job.

Dave, just my :2cents:, but I have a SC50 (NIKON) that I NEVER go out the door without. They have newer versions, 10 pix now I believe, but the SC 260?? Comes in assorted colors and isn't all that bad in price. I am giving my daughter-in law in Alaska one for X -MAS. Here is a quick shot that I took awhile back on the way to work before I retired. They are a LOT of camera for the money. :)

That's a beautiful shot. What brand camera is the SC50?
