I've been thinking about purchasing the Nikkor 10.5 mm f2.8 AF DX Fisheye lens for a little while now.

I use to use my 28mm and 35mm wide angle lenses on my F4 quite a bit but have rarely used my fisheye from another camera (Nikon 995 I was using for digital while still using my F4 several years back). But every so often, I wish I had one for the D200.

How many people have an Ultra-wide angle lens? And how often do you use it?

I love my ultra wide 10-22 for my canon, not a fisheye though, there is horizontal barrel distortion but not too much vertical distortion. So I think it is considered an ultrawide not a fisheye. But i love it for interesting portraits and of course landscape.

You have a D-200? I'm envious.

The only thing I ever used that wide of a lens for was taking pictures of dogs faces for the amusement. I personally never found a use for one....didn't like the distortion.

Mike,
Ever try an ultra wide vs a fisheye? You might see that the distortion is better controlled on an ultra wide though cost is up of course

It was a real b*** to find when I got it. No one had them in stock and price was premium. Of course now Nikon is tempting me to buy a D300. They are secretly telling me my D200 is not good enough! :)

I am a little disappointed with the limited lens selection. I have the 18-135 DX VR, which I rarely use since I bought the 18-200DX VR. I don't find the non-DX lens enticing on a digital SLR in anyway.

I guess everything is and will be Zoom now. Maybe I am a dinosaur but I really liked my Nikkor 105mm 2.8. Especially for portraits. I get the usefulness of Zoom lenses, but always preferred fixed focal lengths for everything but sports perhaps.

How fast is that 18-200? That must take a lot of elements.

Zoom has screwed up more shots than it has ever saved, in my opinion. The temptation is always there to make the subject too commanding of the scene.

Nikon knows best...

Yer killing me.

I had a Nikor 50mm f1.2 that was amazing. That thing was such a light bucket it could take some amazing low light shots. It cost 3X what the camera body I was using cost. ha ha ha

Do you remember the 35 1.4?

what kills me... is the lens are SOO cheap now second hand. You can barely give them away.

I remember that 1.2 was 4 months of my salary when I was in the Navy.

Mmm... sounds HOT to me.... Might want to check that serial number with Nikon. Also just to make sure it is not grey market and the warranty is still valid.
