Would it be possible to have a "Photography 101" area where you vetrans could help me out with learning my way around a camera?
My father is a great photographer, but he's not a great teacher. He's an engineer, and I can't understand a thing he tries to tell me. He see's things in a much more technical way than I do.
Just a thought.
Thanks all.

Great idea, RJ! I am working on a lens article, I think some other people are working on stuff too, but Photo 101 is a must, isn't it?

RJ,
Another aspect of taking good images as compared to great images is - composition.
Learning your way around a camera is important, but "seeing" the quality of the light, the way a subject is placed within the image are also important factors.
Simply put, when you ask someone to take a photo of you, perhaps at an event, notice how they cut off your feet or do something to make the picture one that you would not want to print or frame and put on your wall.
Google Ansel Adams if you want to see extraordinary composition. His images are keepers worthy of hanging on your wall or anywhere...

Thanks Brad. I appreciate the input. I'll need to figgure my way around a camera then start doing something with the composition of different photos.
Like I said it's just a thought.

Get your self a tripod... It's a great way to start noticing composition more as well as taking sharper images.

I like the idea of a 101 section.
But RJ being a techie, the technical stuff will come. Just read up online or just start messing with your camera. Main thing is to capture an image with the amount of light you desire--photography is capturing light and dark and having the power to control how your camera will react to the light.
Everything that will be useful on your camera is being able to make your camera predictable to your mind. You see an image and if you are proficient you will be able to capture easily by messing with the artificial light, ambient light, and the settings of your aperture, exposure and film speed.
