Here's a pic of a sponge and coral I took in Cozumel this last November:

They really great for capturing color underwater!

Awesome shot ! Corals and sponges are my favorite places to lurk ! If you take your time and wait ..... you'll discover a ton of stuff ! I do like taking macro shots.

I would love to have a good camera and, more importantly, a STROBE! Good underwater shots need A LOT of light, as you know. I got lucky with some of mine with the little Olympus point-and-shoot but I tool tons of pics only to produce a few good ones. There are more underwater shots in my gallery.

Tim, they are all wonderful to look at, but I love that Angelfish! What a beautiful shot of a beautiful fish. That Green Moray Eel looks almost rubber!

Yep. A Strobe is the key to underwater photgraphy. Do you have a particluar strobe in mind ? I've used Ikelite strobes, and housings, for years. Have never had an issue with either. Pricey stuff but, top notch quality.

Thanks. Right after I took that shot of the Moray, he lunged out at me. Scared the crap out of me ! He was about 6' long. It amazes me how long they are and how they manage to get themselves into such small places.

Okay, he lunged at you? How does one cope with that kind of fear while in scuba gear? Do you think he was scared of you?

Yeah ... I'm sure he was just warning me to back off. I was pretty close to him, it was a macro shot.

How do you cope with fear ..... keep breathing and try to remain calm. You have to remind yourself to keep breathng normally and don't ascend too quickly. Trust me, when he lunged (I wasn't expecting it) my heart missed a few beats ! :)

So, that is what it takes to get a great eel shot!
