"If Ansel Adams -- arguably the most accomplished and certainly the most popular nature photographer of the past century -- were alive today, would he go digital?"
Peter Lewis, Fortune Magazine (http://money.cnn.com/2003/12/15/commentary/ontechnology/digital_photos/index.htm)

Would he have wanted to master a new version of the craft?

Computers, graphics if I had to guess probably not.

Hmmm...tough one. I would say that he would spend a lot of time on PS (or some other PP software) changing his work to B&W....

What his son thinks. (http://frederickvan.com/blog/2008/12/20/michael-adams-son-of-ansel-adams/) You'll have to wait until the end.

Q: "Would Ansel Adams have gone digital, used Photoshop, & shown work on the web?"

"I eagerly await new concepts and processes. I believe that the electronic image will be the next major advance. Such systems will have their own inherent and inescapable structural characteristics, and the artist and functional practitioner will again strive to comprehend and control them." - Ansel Adams, from the introduction to his book "The Negative", March 1981 .

"For me the future of the image is going to be in electronic form. ... You will see perfectly beautiful images on an electronic screen. And I'd say that would be very handsome. They would be almost as close as the best reproductions." - Ansel Adams, interview with Paul Hill, 1975.

I just watched a special on the building of pipe organs. With all the hand crafting that goes into them they now use a computer to design them. Technology is a benefit only if it is truly an improvement. It is my belief that digital media is a true improvement over film. I'm glad the master agrees.
