Okay, Lil told me about the free photo editor...Gimp...today. I downloaded it and have been playing with it all day. My Son, who is an architectural design drafter uses photoshop and other programs every day. He helped me understand, to some extent, the basics of how to use this program. (a real challenge for him) He actually said he liked it and might download it himself.
Lillian asked me to start a thread and pass along things I learn along the way. So, here it is. Warning...My son was watching me today and says I go about things in a wierd way...I did, however, get the job done. And, It made sense to me.

To do this, I just Dragged and dropped 2 copies of the picture into the Gimp photo editor. (My son says this is the wrong way to do it, but it worked for me and seemed so much easier) This gave me 2 layers to work with. I made the top layer black and white by using the desaturation function ( I didn't see a BW filter). Then I just clicked on the eraser and erased over the areas where I wanted color to show through. It was tedious...took all afternoon, and there are mistakes, but it was fun.
