Fill flash outdoors has already been brought up.....
Awesome!!!!:thumbsup
Now it is time to invest a few more greenbacks for the essential tool;)
Natural light costs nothing and is your purest source of light.
Reflectors come in all shapes and sizes and I like these because they are collapsible, cheap and with different reflective surfaces you can change the light temp on the fly.
You will need an extra set of hands if you don't have stands (don't recommend using stands outdoors anywho).

My reason, first and foremost for wanting a flash is for fill purposes outdoors while shooting wildlife. Is this something you would recommend for my purposes? A concern would be spooking creatures with the reflector.

I don't think the reflector would spook your prey anymore than the flash however a few people stalking might:D

Thanks for reminding me Mike, I have one that they gave me as a "free gift" when I started at the NYIP, guess I should figure out how to use it!:)

I will have to ask a few wildlife photogs I know. I am cocernen because sometimes critters are bothered by the white lens. If a black cloth is draped over it, the same creatures don't seem as bothered. Of course it could simply be me.

Correct me if my assumptions are wrong (I have zero experience with photographic reflectors, but yes with basic light characteristics) but wouldn't you have to set up or place a reflector? Based on light reflections? Seems like that action might scare off wildlife, or at least make them very very nervous. Whereas a flash firing is instantaneous, the speed of light, 186,000 MPS. Perhaps they could jump your shutter speed/event while using the flash.

Now for inanimate objects, reflector no problem.
