These creatures live on our property.
He was out in the sun and for some reason stayed for a moment so I could get a quick picture.
They are near impossible to see if they are not out on rock.

American toad, Bufo americanus, the most common toad in NY.

Thats a great ground cover camo job! Those guys should be around another few million years. Great shot and that rock is pretty cool too.

Thanks Ed. Your post somehow reminded me that there is no perspective for understanding size in the photo above. The rock the frog was on is the second flat step stone going down the stairs in front of CHarley, the dog. The frog was no bigger than a 25 cent quarter coin.

I edited this last night to include credit and appreciation to a kind man at SUNY who helped me identify this toad. To him it as a piece of cake. Not so to me!

What was really cool about this gentleman is that I found out about him on the Internet, emaled him late on a Sunday afternoon and had an answer later in the evening that same day. I wouldn't know him if I focused upon him in my viewfinder.

Great picture Lil. We have those guys here too. They are so cool looking. That was very nice of Dr. Leopold to help you out like that!
