..in my job we have to take pictures of damaged items made out of SiO2 (Silicon Di-Oxide....ie sand) fused quartz. This is basically a type of amorphous glass. The challenge is that it is so pure and clear that it does not photograph well. I have tried several different colors of backgrounds but all you seem to end up with is epheral white lines on whatever color background you have. Anyone have any suggestions???

How about putting it on a light box?

Hmmmm......that might work. I wonder if I can get the 'necks to build me a 6 foot long, 2 foot wide light box.

A wooden box with some fluorescents and milky plexi or some other type glass.

Oh yes, 'necks?

Oh, sorry, derogatory term we use when referring to the tradesmen. It started with them calling all the engineers PNG's which we found out stood for Pencil Necked Geeks. We in turn ended up calling them 'necks which stands for rednecks because they mostly are....and not the fun tragically un-hip Jeff Foxworthy rednecks but the drag-someone-behind-your-truck kinda rednecks.

Humans do that to each other often. Strange batch we are.

If you need color, you will need daylight fluorescents. They sell them, just a bit more expensive.

Is your subject reflective?

Is your subject reflective?

Extremely NOT. I will dig up some shots and post them.
