I have never dabbled much in video. Recently I have been doing a bit of hiking in the beautiful parks of Utah and have come back somewhat unplussed by the ability of my photo's to capture the zen of the moment that the back country can deliver. I am thinking of trying an HD video setup. My concern is how good the sound recording is or do you have to use a seperate recorder with some sort of time-stamp timing track? Any ideas are appreciated.

I have done a little research on this and, as I understand, one can do some pretty decent sound with a good directional mic. That is probably going to be my next purchase, actually. They're not cheap, though.
