Hmmnn! I don't like it at all.
This looks better: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS (http://search.pbase.com/search?q=canon+ef+70+300mm&begin=10)
$482.00 at Amazon
If $ was not an object it would be this, as Max has suggested in the past: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS (http://search.pbase.com/search?q=Canon+EF+70-200mm+f%2F2.8L+IS&b=Search+Photos&c=sp)
$1,533.79 at Amazon
One thing to add is you can tell a big difference with some shots. However I have one 70-200 lens that has it and causes camera errors from time to time with it on and I have to turn it off. It also eats up the battery much quicker because it is a constant run motor of some sort in the lens. On sporting events it makes a huge difference, for most still shots with a quick exposure time I can't tell the difference.

Max, other than the point you mentioned, do you like the 70-200 lens?

Lil the lens I have is the L lens 2.8 and it is crystal clear. Probably one of the sharpest lenses I have.
Here is one on ebay.

The L's can be pretty pricey, but you can get the 4.5f for a lot less and they are still very good glass. I want a 300 in the worst way and can't justify the expense.

Sorry Max, I'm tired. That is the lens I mentioned you recommend.

Max,
What would you recommend for someone who wants to spend no more than $400-450? Do you like the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS?
Lil the EF lenses are just a little slower to respond and not as good of glass but they still work well. I have a 70-300 and a 70-210 and a 28-135 all in the EF series but use my L lens or a 50mm 1.4 I have most of the time. The 28-135 is probably the most versatile unless you just need the 200 or larger.

Max, this may be an impossible question to answer, based upon what you see me shoot, do you think I could be happy with the 28-135? I like the way it looks on this site: http://search.pbase.com/search?q=canon+ef+28+135mm&begin=10

It is probably one of the best options for what you do IMHO. But it does not have a macro setting but you have another lens with that.

Max, I appreciate you HO. Thank you.
Here is a photo taken with a D40, 70-200 2.8f at 5.6 with the ISO at 320 using a 550EX flash in a semi dark room from about 6 feet. As you can see the boy is scratching his face so it still captures action but the clarity of the lens is amazing. This is with IS on.

That is what I'm used to from my old SLR film equipment and would love to be able to attain with digital. I think it is time to save my pennies. Thanks for the picture Max.
BTW Max, Buster has beautiful Yorkie hair. He looks to be the sort that does not require high maintenance to keep his hair from becoming a problem. Is that true?

Buster gets a bath once a week with some shampoo the Vet provides for me. I don't do anything but wash and towel dry him and then let him run it off. After a week his hair starts to get a little oily but comes out great after a simple wash. I was just going through video's and found one of him getting his bath, he takes them but doesn't like them.

His hair sounds like Ali's, but we are fortunate because she LOVES the bath. CHarley's hair is a bit more high maintenance and well, when it comes to a bath, it might be best said that he looks for the number of the SPCA.
Is this video something we might see posted one day?
Here is a short clip of the bath and of course the running it off that takes place right after the bath. :)
