I need help on this one. A family member wants a compact digital camera, easy to use, good quality snap shots. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are I want the same thing. So far I like the Canon G10 (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=17624) the best.
Or if pocket size is more important than an Elf (http://www.usa.canon.com/app/html/Digital_ELPH/2008/elph.html) might fit the bill.

Pocket size is the best. She has very small hands.
Point and shoot compact the Fuji does a great job as well..
This is a friend of mines shot in Lake Tahoe (click on the larger image and note the detail)

and the cameras are pretty reasonable too like this A900 that is compact with image stabilization, 9 mega pixels and a nice digital zoom..
Only $110.00 from refurb depot

The only thing I don't like about these type of cameras is no viewfinder and using an LCD screen outdoors can be a real PIA (a consideration for some).

Something with the largest lens is what I recommend. The more light let in, the better.

Well, I think I didn't leave you out. :D
Now, about the cameras, well nothing out there reviews very well. Canon seems to be consistently the best. I'd consider the Canon SD1100 IS Digital ELPH because it is easy to use and should produce a good snapshot almost all of the time in the hands of the uninvolved camera user. With holiday sales, I bet it could be picked up for $150.
