Rose (Dozenroses13) took the MSF course and got her motorcycle license a few months ago. She then began her search for her first motorcycle. We didn't know which bike was going to be right for her, so we started going to dealers and sittng on them to see what was the right height, wieght, comfortable, etc.

Everyone had tried to tell her to start out small (like a 500, 600 or 650) and we almost had her convinced. Well, we went to Americade up in Lake George a few months ago and we started looking at some of the 60,000 plus bikes in parking lots and driving by. She kept pointing out one certain bike time after time. A Yamaha FJR1300. Big bike. Super Sport touring according to Yamaha.

Myself, along with almost everyone we know, tried to talk her out of it until she had some time on a smaller bike. Well, she, being the stubborn woman I love, couldn't justify spending 5k on a bike she wasn't intending to keep.

So, a few weeks ago, we had a friend offer us a weekend stay at a 'cabin' in the Poconos. We took him up on his offer and went down. On the way home we stopped into this tiny dealer and they just happened to have the bike she wanted.

The FJR1300AEWS has a power windshield, ABS and, get this....Electric Shift. So, being the nice guy I am, I offered to ride it 5 hours home (back roads and a few stops) to NY as she hasn't actually been on the street on a bike. Along with my generosity, I made her promise me a large amount of parking lot time before she ever ventured into the street on the bike. She gladly agreed.

This bike is like a Cadillac...LOL. I almost have completed the break in for her and first service should be in the week or so. I like it a lot, but it is a totally different bike from the V. Here are some pics I found on the web of it. I wil mark a few of them up with some of the gadgets and features....

Well! Congratulations and practice well in those parking lots. It certainly pays off.

My buddy has a 4 year old model and it's a great machine. The new one is near perfect.
Congrats!

Can't speak for the Kawi, but the Yami is on my list should I hit the lottery!

It was great! We logged 2300 miles in 8 days 7 nights.

I have a ride report posted here (http://www.harley-davidsonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2217)

I'm not sure if you can view it as a non member but if thats the case join up. We would be glad to have you there.

Our very own Max started it up. I dont think he is involved with it anymore but there are some people you know there, right Lil?

Wow Ed! That is incredible! I am very jealous. I don't know that I would be able to ride that much for that long. I can only ride for about and hour on the V, both comfort and fuel reasons. On Rose's new toy, maybe a little longer. I am not a hard core rider unfortunately, but I do see us taking many longer trips on her bike.

Thanks Mike,
With your location in our beautiful state you really dont have to go far to enjoy the road.
I'm jealous of you and Rose. To have a girl who rides is just great!
