Off to work in a little while. The weekend was full of company, so no photography for me.
44 degrees and cloudy at the moment.

R.I.T. is reputed to have a very good photography program and in general 97% of their grads at the Institute are employed almost immediately. Photography however, always lags because they say over 50% of the photographers out there are freelance.

Yes it does Lil and as you know for any plant to shut down makes the bosses very unhappy. It's only once every five years so I have some time to rest up. ;)
Diamond Lil
11-17-2009, 06:04 AM
Well, that time span is a good thing. It cannot go down for a minor reason, so good luck to you down there.
Can you ever catch up from the downtime?
EZE RIDER
11-17-2009, 06:15 AM
Yes we can. This is a planned outage. After 5 years of 24/7 operation things need to be rebuilt so that they keep running reliably.
All power plants follow this model. Some a little longer and some a little shorter but it's a necessity.
Diamond Lil
11-17-2009, 06:22 AM

My oven isn't working right either Lil. The burners and the broiler work, the gas is firing right, but the oven won't get out of the preheat stage.
I've been trying to get it fixed since May, exactly 2 weeks after the warranty ran out!!
Nobody can be bothered to come out to fix the little stuff. I wonder if I could cook a turkey in my grill?? :p
Diamond Lil
11-23-2009, 09:37 PM
Okay. Ovens don't like holidays.
It must be the absence of the hormones. It makes one wonder about the others.
Erin, turkey on the grill is outstanding. I've done it in a pan with spices to liking with an aluminum foil tent. Cooked it slowly for many hours and it was well worth it.
We did it on a spit once, but it was a bit of a hassle. Tasted real good.

I might try that Lil. Sounds good. At least I can use the burners on the stove, and the oven will get hot, just not up to full temp!

Thanks for mentioning the Whirlpool problems. I'm getting close to choosing new appliances and will steer clear of them.

Sorry to hear about so many applance promblem and need them for holidays. I like kenimore washer and dryer and oven and dishwasher. I keep things plain and simple and use old style oven with burners and heater elment in oven top and bottom and use new h-2 clothes washer that saves water and stainless drum last for ever and does nice job and big old fashion dryer to dry clothes. I check customer reports and look over things before buying items. Wish you all the best and enjoy you holiday and families and Friends.

Yes you can I would recommend you not stuff it.
Cook the stuffing the last 45 minutes in a covered dish,
Place your turkey in a pan covered with aluminum foil set in the middle of the grill. Turn just the outside burners on low.
Cook for about 12 minutes per pound, until the turkey registers an internal temperature of 165°F in the thigh and 170°F in the breast.
The last 20 minutes place turkey directly on the grill. Very tasty
You may need to replenish the drippings in the pan with a bit of water once and awhile if you are planning on making gravy.
Just make sure you have plenty of propane Don't ask me how I know this :blush

It is such a good thing you have some time away from work Ed. Congrats.
You know, I've been a KitchenAid person for years. My washer, dryer, dishwasher and refrigerator ran for 13 years straight without any hitches whatsoever. When we sold the house the folks who bought it were insistent that the appliances be part of the deal. Our builder was big on Whirlpool, so we went with them for the range, dishwasher and microwave. Three keypad/control boards later I now have a GE Advantium unit in place of the microwave. It cooks with light, supposedly up to eight times faster than a standard oven and requires no preheating. It also serves as a microwave. It has been working well so far and longer without interruption than any Whirlpool we had.
Friends just up the road purchased a Whirlpool microwave 3 months ago and are having the keypad/control board replaced today. :faint
So as you don't think I am just anti-Whirlpool the GE Profile refrigerator is a dog in the ice maker department. Service has been here three times for it. There is no way that anyone has found to make it stop making ice when the bin is full. The paddle that is designed for just that is useless. So, as the days go by the ice fills up and freezes the mechanicals. They thought a shield on the unit would stop it, but no. Nowadays, with 2 of us using ice, we turn it off and only run it when needed.
Here is an interesting read when thinking about appliances: Appliance411 (http://www.appliance411.com/purchase/make.shtml)
...I check customer reports and look over things before buying items. Wish you all the best and enjoy you holiday and families and Friends.
Making such purchases is a major research project Jeff.

The part that was supposed to be here in time to be installed so that we had a functional range by Thanksgiving never made it. We've been hearing them make kills lately.
Not sure but I think the number of human hunters is still down, due partly to Lymes desease and that wasting disease ( which I do not hear anything more about lately) so it only makes sense that the 4 legged pedator popluation would be on the rise.
Nature will balance things out if man leaves things alone.
I just heard one of my abutting neighbors has allowed a trapper on his property.
I only found this out via another neighbor (who came looking for her missing cat) that he had leg hold traps set.
I feel I should have been told. Not that I would ever walk on his property I have 20 acres of my own to wander around on but I have 2 dogs with invisible fencing on only 8 acres.
When we walk the trails outside of that zone Maggie & Fergus are very good about staying right with me but what if they saw something and ran to check it out.
Rant over :o

Things will balance out LT, you are right, but in the meantime they are coming within inches of peoples homes. Waking up in the middle of the night to a pack at the bedroom window is unnerving people. This is the first time since since we moved here they have never been that close.
Regarding the traps next door, it would have been just a bit of common decency for your neighbor to tell you. Sad.

Hmm...whats up?...TOO MUCH SNOW. In December we got 18 inches of snow....The temp stayed WAY below freezing for a while and it stuck around...and well...there was still some snow on the ground when last friday, the 2nd to last weekend in JAN we got another foot.
And today we got some sleet and freezing rain....This weekend coming up they are calling for another "significant" winter storm. And my job only gets more busy when it snows...so yeah...I have been pretty busy lately. :)
Thinking I may have to trade in the Electra-Glide for a snowmobile....
Diamond Lil
02-03-2010, 06:08 AM
I hear you about the snow. I do not know about Virginia, but the news report indicated that DC had gotten more snow than parts of upstate NY this year. Now, that is not speaking of the north country. It is a snow making machine up there. A friend up in Mexico sends pictures of what it looks like as he is trying to get out the front door. Mostly they are white.
I've done jet skis, but not snowmobiles. What do we think of snowmobiles everyone? They certainly look like a good time.

More snow yesterday.... Did not get to go for my Birthday ride on Atilla.... So I think I am about to lick the windshield....
i believe that more snow here than New York.... IT WON'T GO AWAY.....
As far as snowmobiles..... they are a blast. If you buy one also pick up a long piece of nylon rope and the intertube out of the biggest truck tire you can find.... and in Disney style... keep your hands in the ride......

Lori's right, it is a blast.
Unfortunately it is hard to find anywhere to go unless you own a lot of land. In the old days you could ride for miles and miles.
Now all the farmers, hunting clubs, land owners etc. put 'no trespassing' signs around their properties, and lots of fences and barbed wire.
They're afraid of being sued if anyone gets hurt on their property.
There have been many people injured, even decapitated because they did not know about or see the fencing.
Thanks insurance companies and lawyers!

Yeah we have got more snow than a lot of NY this year from what I heard....they aren't saying how much we are supposed to get tomorrow and SAT, but I have heard rumors of up to 30 inches in areas.....Im not counting on THAT one though.

I t was 40 hp and 18 inche wide track with bear craws in track for traction on ice and snow and wide ski with shocks on them and emergency kill swicth hooked to glove if you fell off and do 85 mph top speed and with 4.5 gallon gas tank. It was nice to race locals in the open fields and cruise with friends everyday .Moonlight nights were nice to ride and enjoy the glow off the snow sitting on a mountain top or open field .Thanks for the days gone past and Happy days they were !

EZE RIDER
02-18-2010, 09:12 PM
I use Lightroom and when you import photos into Lightroom there are some options for adding metadata to the pics. You can really enter quite a bit of info if desired but I stick to the basics. I'm sure other PP programs allow for the same opportunities. I can also change or add metadata to each pic when processing them.
I believe for the metadata created in the camera I just have EZE PICS entered in.
Diamond Lil
02-18-2010, 09:19 PM
So every time you process you add the desired metadata?
There has to be a way to automate that, wouldn't you think?
EZE RIDER
02-19-2010, 07:36 PM
So every time you process you add the desired metadata?
There has to be a way to automate that, wouldn't you think?
Not exactly, There are preset metadata profiles that you can setup that will get applied to every photo that you import but as you scroll through your photos you have the option to continue to add info to the photo such as a name, location or the persons name in the photo. These additions would not apply to all of the pics of course.
So as far as I can tell it's setup pretty well.

We were on 14 part of the day Lil, simply beautiful! We hit wineries on both sides of Lake Seneca near Watkins Glen, I can not believe how many there are. We tried to get a room, but everything was booked up.:(

Every time we traveled down to Long Island the winery count went up! Unfortunately, with all the leaf peepers out a reservation is essential.

My friend started looking for a room a few weeks ago and there was nothing.:(
We'll plan better next year.
Oh, I fibbed, I did take a couple quick shots yesterday, just friends hanging out pics, but I did get one or two of some grapes.
They were boring so I played with them a little!

After a heat wave, of sorts, the weather seems to be headed for Fall for real. Off to the Smokies in a few days, end of next week. Colors will, or should start coming down this way in earnest now. Will be looking for the colors, bears, and Elk on this trip, or what ever I can find. Hard to guess about the Fall colors, but we will see. No, I wont be looking for any more Grasshoppers. :D I can't believe I posted that. :)
