I've been working as a technician or engineer my whole life. My high school job was as an operator at a semiconductor plant. For some time I have been wanting to make a career change but have been afraid to lose all the seniority, pay, etc. But I have lost some people close to me in the last year and I realize I'm not getting any younger. My association with this forum made me realize how much I need to at least have a shot at some endeavour that is in the creative domain.
I applied to this program at Utah Valley University and have been accepted at the Junior level. I start in 4 weeks. Yay for me.

The program has been audited and approved by Disney Studios, Pixar, and ILM. They have their first graduates next year and all are spoken for.

Wow mike,
sounds like fun. I've always wanted formal training, at least more than the few classes i took while in college. Good luck with it. Being in LA there are a bunch of classes i can and should take but cant find a consistent work schedule to do them. I am on call and my work is very unpredictable.
At 30, i still have a long way to go, but my working career started in graphic design, paid part of my way through college. After a couple of years of trying to run a business and living on a starving artist's pay, i joined the gubment. Been almost 8 years now. I love what i do and will have a decent retirement. I figure I can continue this as a hobby now and go on more seriously once I retire somewhere between the ages of 50 and 57.
I do notice that when I had to be creative to live, it wasn't as fun as just doing it as a hobby. But congrats, you are where I plan to be.

Mike, I am very impressed. I am also a little jealous! I took a course at a tade school a few years back and got to do some very very basic 3D modeling. What amazing things you can do! Way to go! I wish you the best of luck.

Congrats Mike. I have been wanting a career change myself but unfortunately I can't afford it right now. Good luck in your new adventure.

Mike...was looking at that curriculm you posted and that course looks great! You're going to have keep us informed on that after you start. Looks good and in the not too distant future, something like that might be worth my time and effort.

The turds wont accept my math because it is over 2 years old so I am having to refresh to test out. I thought I was done with math.

Yeah, it is no problem, just an annoyance. The one thing I have learned in this is that college certainly isn't for the students.

Yeah, every department is like a little bananna dictatorship of their own ran by a troll of a woman who's only goal in life is to do as little as possible. If anyone ever tried to run a business this way......
My buddy goes to Boise State Univ and he has a saying "Good old BSU, where they put the BS before U."

That is why I do not like working in administration.
